sticking with it

Could a mother be more proud?

He wrapped that yarn around the needle for an hour before he realized monster trucks are more fun.
But still, seeing my son try and “knit wike Mama”  broke my heart in a good way.

So you saw my post about winding yarn right?

Now THIS is my usual method of taking a skein and turning it into a usable ball of yarn.

and here

winder thingy...for free.

This is the last of this fall-ish colored yarn (it had a name, I promise you) I spun a couple of years ago.  I found I had a bobbin of it left  from those spinning adventures and after I took it off and measured it, I found I had a hundred yards, plus the bit I already had wound up to make my Garden View Shawlette with. I am down to the last bit of that yarn now, a mere golf-ball sized bit.

Gladly I found about 2 more ounces of the roving un-spun so after today I am going to have to grab a spindle and spin up the rest.

These batches of home spun yarn go from thread to semi chunky to sock weight.

Therefore so does my shawl.

The last few inches of my shawl is coming out exactly how I wanted it to be all the way through, so I know what thickness to spin the last few ounces.

It’s good to knit with yarn you spin.

You learn a lot about your skills as a yarn maker.

You learn what yarn does if it still has a lot of energy in it (twist).

(see the diagonal twist near the top?)

You learn what weight yarn you love the best.

the top half of this picture drapes the best.  The lower section is thicker and it’s nice but…thicker.

You hope that blocking will fix some of the inconsistencies.

We can hope, no?

(we can also hope I learn how to change the color filter soon)

This is my no brainer knit when I need a break from Aidez, and at first I was going to frog it and save the yarn for another day.

It’s hairy, and missing the drape my first shawl has.

But the more rows I add,  the more I am falling in love with the blend of fall colors.

The hues of brown, and rust, plum, and yellow are dreamy.

It is screaming FALL and it’s making me happy.

Also the second half of the shawl is draping like I wanted so I am hopeful this is going to be a success.

Plus it’s wider than my first one, which I wanted too.

Sometimes in life it pays to stick with a questionable knit.

Sometimes it pays to have faith in a blob of yarn you made yourself.

a hundred yards of hairy fuzz

It’s still hairy, plus the picture is sideways.Good thing I know where to find an electric razor.

Don’t know what to say about the sideways photo.

I love it anyways
